The Shire of Cunderdin is centered on Great Eastern Highway in the heart of the West Australian wheatbelt some 156km east of the capital city Perth. Cunderdin and Meckering are the two towns in the Shire (population 1,550) and they provide services to the surrounding wheat and sheep farms.
Cunderdin has an agricultural college, Health Centre, airfield, swimming pool, two schools, police station, hotel and some manufacturing businesses. Meckering is famous for the 1968 earthquake of magnitude 6.8 which destroyed most of the town.
Both towns are located on the "Golden Pipeline" which supplies water to the wheatbelt and goldfields, and are on the transcontinental rail line.
Accommodation is available at the Cunderdin Hotel and Cunderdin Caravan Park, and in Meckering at the Ironbark Farm Stay.
